East Winds Ensemble presents a unique concert featuring two amazing masters of Japanese music—Masayo Ishigure and Marco Lienhard—to celebrate the release of a new CD of music by Japanese composer Rando Fukuda. The concert will include traditional as well as modern compositions performed on traditional Japanese instruments: Shakuhachi, Koto, and Shamisen.
East Winds Ensemble has toured extensively in Japan, Mexico, Europe and South America. Masayo Ishigure and Marco Lienhard have performed at venues ranging from Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center to Madison Square Garden and the Nagano Olympics, as well as appearing on numerous national and international TV programs and networks (PBS, CBS, Regis & Kathie Lee). Charles Tang will also appear as part of the Ensemble.
This performance is made possible in part by funds from East Winds, Inc. and in part with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and in part by public funds from the Fund for Creative Communities/NY Council on the Arts Decentralization Program, administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. This concert is also possible thanks to a grant from the NoMAA grant Program, made possible by the JPMorgan Chase Foundation and the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation.
